Caden Burns '25, Liam Burns '28, and Sophia Wenberg '29 qualify for State Alpine Meet. Caden Burns crowned the 2025 Boys' Alpine State Champ!

After a great race at the Section 4A Alpine championship meet on February 5, three members of SPA’s Alpine ski team qualified for the Minnesota State Alpine meet after great Section performances. At the section meet, Caden Burns ’25 finished 1st and was named the Section 4A Champion, Liam Burns ’28 finished 6th, and Sophia Wenberg ’29 finished 7th.

The 2025 MSHSL Alpine Skiing State Meet took place at Giant’s Ridge on February 11, and Caden Burns ’25 earned the title of State Champion after a great performance at the meet, finishing in first place with a combined run time of 1:12.97. This caps off a great season of skiing for Caden as he won every single conference meet this season, and claimed the titles of Alpine IMAC Champion and Section 4A Champion after finishing in first place at both meets.

His success is no surprise to Head Coach Nathan Goldman, who told the Star Tribune, “Caden is a really strong skier. He really studies the course and knows where his strengths are. He is really good at capitalizing on that and getting the fastest time he can out of both the conditions and the course.” He noted in the Pioneer Press that this is an ideal way to cap off Caden’s remarkable career at SPA, saying, “This is a really fun way for him to kind of end that senior year. That’s a great way to go out.”

Other results from the State Meet included: Liam Burns ’28, who finished in 12th place (out of 88 boys), and Sophia Wenberg ’29, who finished in 14th place out of 87 girls. Visit the MSHSL State Alpine Tournament page for full results. Congratulations and go Spartans!
