After a great race at the Section 3A Nordic championship meet on February 4, SPA’s girls’ Nordic ski team has qualified for the Minnesota State Nordic meet after finishing in first place, edging Highland Park by one point.
At the section meet, Maren Overgaard ’26 and Inga Wing ’25 won the section sprint relay, qualifying for state and individually; Eleanor Mody ’27 finished 3rd, Sophie Kannapiran ’28 finished 6th, Paloma Good ’27 finished 9th, Alyda Overgaard finished 10th, and Elisabeth Hilton ’30 finished 19th overall.
On the boys’ side, Darien Hull ’28 and Sam Hilton ’27 won the section sprint relay as well, qualifying for the State meet. This is the sixth year that SPA has had at least one Spartan skiing at the State meet.


The Minnesota State Nordic Championship meet was held on February 12-13, at Giant’s Ridge.
The sprint team of Maren Overgaard ’26 and Inga Wing ’25 came in first place in the relay sprint race with a time of 16:16.23 and 159 total points. Interviewed by the St. Paul Pioneer Press after the race, Overgaard said their first-place finish was the goal coming into the race. “I knew, coming in with Inga, that our goal was to win, and I knew we had it in us.” She called the experience of watching Wing cross first to secure the state title Wednesday “surreal”, adding: “to know that we finally brought it together, it was very amazing.”
Overall the team placed eighth, and individual finishes included Eleanor Mody ’27 (21st), Sophie Kannapiran ’28 (44th), Paloma Good ’27 (55th), Alyda Overgaard ’28 (64th), and Elisabeth Hilton ’30 (104th).
On the boys’ side, the relay pair of Darien Hull ’28 and Sam Hilton ’27 had an outstanding season with an impressive performance at State as well!
