After another phenomenal year, the SPA boys’ tennis team capped off a remarkable postseason by capturing Class A State championship titles in the team, doubles, and singles competitions. 

In the State Championship, the Spartans beat IMAC rival, Breck (6-1) earning the Class A championship title for the third year in a row! In the individual State tournament, the doubles team of Leo Benson ’24/Maik Nguyen ’24 defeated Mound-Westonka (6-1/6-2) to capture the Class A State Doubles Title! In the All-SPA singles final, Zahir Hassan ’27 claimed the state title, and Winston Arvidson ’28 placed second. Additionally, the doubles team of Allan Wang ’26/Isaak Senaratna ’27 captured the Class A third-place medals!

The Spartan track and field program finished a phenomenal year with tremendous growth across all events! There were many highlights in the Section Meet, including the following medalists:

🥇Girls 4×800: Clare Ryan Bradley, Sophie Kannapiran,
Maren Overgaard, Paloma Good
🥇100m Hurdles AND 300m Hurdles: Elizabeth Tuttle
🥇Long Jump: Clare Ryan Bradley
🥇400m Dash: Oliver Thompson
🥈800m Dash: Paloma Good
🥈Boys 4×400: Langston Thompson, Oliver Thompson,
Roman Hozalski, & Nico Martin
4th Triple Jump: Julia Taylor
4th 300m Hurdles: Hazel McCarthy
4th 800m Dash: Maren Overgaard
7th 800m Dash: Sophie Kannapiran
9th Girls 4×400: Sophie Kannapiran, Hazel McCarthy,
Sonia Karbanda, Maren Overgaard

The top two medalists in each event advance to the Single A State Meet. An impressive number of 9 athletes competed at State on June 6th & 7th.

Two Spartans earned themselves State Champion status! Oliver Thompson in the 400m, and Elizabeth Tuttle in the 300m hurdles AND she was the State Runner-Up in the 100 hurdles!

Baseball | Team Page

The baseball program called upon many young players to fill major roles this season. They showed enormous growth along the way with a couple of huge wins against Nova and Blake coming late in the season. The boys received the #10 seed in Section 4AA and defeated the #7 seed, Nova, in the opening round. A huge highlight after falling to them earlier in the season. In the second round, SPA lost to the #2 seed, St. Agnes, and MPA in the elimination bracket. | Bracket

The coaches are excited about their young players, including the JV group that went 6-6 and a talented MS team.

In the Section 4AA tournament, SPA finished 6th out of 17 teams. The top 4 teams and the next highest scoring 20 individuals move on to day two of Sections. A few Spartans broke that threshold to advance as individuals, including; Will Black ’24, Will Fenlon ’25, Lukas Hembre ’24, and Henri Peltier ’24.

The Girls’ Golf team saw significant growth this year, with enough members to form both, a Varsity and Junior Varsity team. A major milestone for the program! In the post-season, Peony Steele ‘27 and Alyda Overgaard ‘28 advanced to the second round of the section tournament. Notably, Peony finished 18th overall and achieved a new low score of 92. At the CAA MS Golf Championship, Alyda tied for first place in the girls’ division!

Participation flourished this year with 36 players, including; 14 first-time players, 10 in their second season, 8 completing their third season, and just 4 with 4+ years of experience. Despite these numbers, the JV/V team picked up 4 wins and two ties. Additional stats demonstrated growth from the 2023 season. The Spartans scored 27 more goals and allowed 32 fewer goals against. Most importantly, the Varsity team earned All-State Academic Gold recognition with the highest team GPA in the section, finishing with a cumulative team GPA of 3.899.

The TrIMAC Blackhawks had another successful year, finishing with an impressive 8-4 record. This included a sweep over ALL of their IMAC opponents, earning them the Conference Championship title for the second year in a row!

The boys received the #7 seed in Section 3A and defeated the #10 seed, Simley in the opening round of the tournament. In the second round, they lost to the #2 seed, Woodbury. | Bracket

The SPA softball program entered into a newly expanded Co-Op agreement for the 2024 and 2025 seasons with Minnehaha Academy. The partnership allowed the program to have full JV and Varsity levels which is great for all the athletes involved! 

The girls finished with an impressive, 13-8 record. This included an 8-0 sweep over IMAC opponents, earning them the 2024 Conference Championship title! In the Section 4AAA Softball Tournament, the girls received the #5 seed and lost to the #4 seed Mahtomedi, in the opening round on Monday, May 20. They went on to earn a convincing, 19-0 win over St. Paul Johnson before falling to Hill-Murray in a close battle, 6-4. | Bracket
