Spartan 2024-2025 Winter Sports Preview

The 2024-25 winter athletics season is here! Here’s a preview of our varsity winter teams–check out Team Pages for full schedule information and plan to join us to cheer on our winter Spartans!

Girls’ Basketball

In the team’s most successful season in the last decade, the girls finished the regular season last year with a 17-7 record. Captains for the 2024-25 season are Madelyn Moser ’25Clare Ryan Bradley ’26, and Julia Taylor ’25.

Boys’ Basketball

Coming off a 22-7 record a season ago, expectations are once again high for boys’ basketball this season. The team returns All-Conference Honorable Mention honorees and captains Ezra Cunningham ‘26 and Nathan Rock ‘25, along with captain Ben Sieben ’26, for the 2024-25 season. 

Boys’ Hockey (Co-Op Hosted at SPA)

Despite a 9-16 regular season record last year, boys’ hockey is looking to build off a section victory from a season ago. The team returns All-Conference Honorable Mention Honoree and Captain Ethan Peltier ’25 along with co-captain Liam Huddleston ’25

Girls’ Hockey (Co-Op Hosted at Blake) 

In its inaugural year, SPA will partner with Blake and Minnehaha Academy for the 2024-25 season and look to build off of impressive wins last season over Eagan, Hopkins/Park, and Prior Lake. SPA sends 6 players to the co-op, including last year’s South Suburban All-Conference Player, Ella Bond ’26

Alpine Skiing 

There are high expectations for this year’s Alpine team after another solid season a year ago. The team returns All-Conference performer and captain Evy Sachs ’26, All-Conference honoree Liam Burns ’28 and co-captains include Mia Collins ’25 and Nicholas McCarthy ’25.

Nordic Skiing

After a stellar 2023-24 season that included conference championships and state meet appearances, Nordic is anticipating another strong showing this winter. The team returns state qualifiers: Sophie Kannapiran ’28Maren Overgaard ’26, Inga Wing ’25Paloma Good ’27, and Eleanor Mody ’27. Captains for the 24-25 season are Mody, Overgaard and Wing. 

 

Boys’ Swim & Dive (Co-Op)

The co-op Trojans finished second last year in the St. Paul Conference. This season, they are focused on advancing both individuals and relay teams to the State meet and return All-Conference Honorable Mention Honoree and Captain Finn Cox ’25, All-Conference Honorable Mention Honoree Ben Lee ’26, along with Captain William Hanna ’25.

Fencing

With a big team once again, Spartan Fencing will look to build off last year’s two top-five finishes at State. Captains for Fencing this year include Milan Mishra ’25Yassin Mokbel ’26, and Belle Weng ’25.
