TYSEN HAYES '24 RECORDS 1,000 POINTS

Tysen Hayes 1,000 Career Points

On Tuesday, February 13, senior boys’ basketball co-captain Tysen Hayes recorded a major milestone: 1,000 career points. The moment came in the first half of the game against Math and Science Academy when Tysen hit a silky smooth 3-point shot from the corner to push his scoring record to four-digits. The senior forward has been a starter on SPA’s varsity team since 10th grade.

“Most people who watch Tysen play,” Coach Keto explains, “can see right away that he’s a talented scorer — he can hit 3’s, finish at the rim with his left or right hand, post up a smaller defender, or dribble around a bigger one. His offensive versatility is truly special. What a lot of fans don’t realize, however, is the fact that Tysen does several other things on the court just as well. He is the best rebounder in the conference and his basketball IQ is extremely high, which allows him to be a coach on the floor. He sets screens, talks on defense, and helps us break presses and defensive pressure. He’s put in a lot of time in the weight room and on the court to make himself a great basketball player, and it’s fun to see his hard work paying off.”

Senior co-captain Mikkel Rawdon is just 24 points away from surpassing 1,000 career points. While the three Spartan co-captains are making it seem pedestrian to earn 1,000 career points, the fact that all three will hit the mark in the same year is quite astounding given the fact that only ten players have done it in the entire history of SPA boys basketball.
